Laughter

The KHEL Community

There's nothing like the sound of a child's laughter: innocent, healthy and full of happiness. It is hard to laugh when you're hungry and scared. We provide basic needs to children so they have the freedom to enjoy life, to laugh. We provide education so that they can someday experience the joy of self-sufficiency. We believe that community is about having people to laugh with, as much as it is about having people to support you in times of need.

KHEL is a primarily volunteer-supported and donor-based organization. As well as the generous funds provided by friends around the world, we support community co-operative projects that provide employment and a fair income. KHEL is currently working on broadening its horizons and moving towards a sustainable future by addressing some crucial issues such as preservation of traditional arts and ecological concerns.

The Sewing Project gives young women marketable skills

In this spirit, KHEL provides advice and marketing support to traditional Indian artisans, and now has available for sale a diversity of handmade and eco-friendly products ranging from tree-free paper to handloom fabrics made by village co-operatives in the remote Himalayas. In addition, we have a KHEL Sewing Project that enables poor women to exercise their right to a fairly earned income, improve their standard of living and gain a sense of self-confidence by learning traditional textile arts and business planning.

Goods from India are being seen in many shops around the world. Unfortunately, they often come with the hidden cost of sweatshop child labor. In contrast, purchasing goods from KHEL contributes to the health and well being of children and their families. KHEL supports fair trade practices; all proceeds from sales go back to the community. KHEL products are now available at The Meditation Center in Minneapolis, MN, USA. More venues are coming soon! If you know someone who may be interested in carrying KHEL sponsored products, please email us at products@khelcharities.org
